In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.
One of Newport's premier destinations, the Cliff Walk runs for 3.5 miles one-way along the scenic, rocky coast and past Newport's famous mansions. The section between First Beach and 40 steps is paved and easy for around two-thirds of a mile. The trail gets more rugged as you go south (see map). Restrooms are available seasonally at 40 Steps and at First Beach. The best parking options are at First Beach and on Narragansett Avenue between Ochre Point Avenue and the Cliff Walk. The walk can be quite crowded during the summer and parking can also be challenging. There are many entrances to the Cliff Walk. See the map for details. The trailheads specifically listed here are the two ends of the Cliff Walk and the entrance at Narragansett Avenue/40 Steps.
