In Rhode Island the primary hunting seasons typically run from the second Saturday in September to the last day of February and from the third Saturday in April to the last day in May, however this can vary from year to year and depends on what game is being hunted. During hunting season you should wear at least 200 square inches (a hat OR a vest) of blaze orange. During shotgun deer season, which is typically in December, you should wear at least 500 square inches of blaze orange (a hat AND a vest). For more information see the RI DEM website.

What’s There:

This family friendly 66.5-acre preserve is adjacent to Francis C. Carter Memorial Preserve, and the nearby Carolina Management Preserve. There is a 4.5-acre old farm field along Route 91 where there is parking for 7 cars. The other sixty-two acres are mostly forested, with about ten acres of wetlands. The property contains oak and pitch pine forests, vernal pools, intermittent and permanent streams, bedrock hills and areas of exposed ledge with boulder fields left behind by the Ice age. There are currently two blazed trails with plans for a trail in the north to the highest point with majestic views. Both the blue trail (old cart path) and yellow trail are rated easy. Current distance of the two trails is 1.3 miles. The green spur takes you to a restful spot to sit beside a mini waterfall.
