This is a site for launching boats from trailers. Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but please do your best to keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.

Description & Overview:

Sabin Point is a waterfront park at end of Shore Road on the east side of the Providence River. There is a boat ramp here and a paved parking lot (which may fill up if the fishing is especially good). The boat ramp is concrete and in reasonable condition but it ends at about the low tide line. And, the ramp is partly blocked by the pilings from the former floating dock that has been removed. The old fixed dock that lead to the float is still in place but it's essentially useless for boating purposes since it has high railings on all sides.

The Providence River is almost a mile wide here so wind, waves, tidal currents, and large boat traffic should be expected. The shipping channel used by large vessels going to and from the Port of Providence is 1000 feet off Sabin Point.

From Sabin Point you can paddle north along the shore to the scenic lighthouse on Ponham Rock or you can go south to Bullocks Cove, a deep cove with various arms, but also a place likely to be busy with boat traffic, especially on summer weekends.

There is a fishing pier a few hundred feet south of the boat ramp, just around the tip of Sabin Point.

Driving Landmarks: From Veterans Memorial Parkway/Pawtucket Avenue in East Providence, take Route 103/Bullocks Point Avenue south. In 0.4 miles you will come to the busy intersection with Lincoln Avenue. Continue straight on Bullocks Point Avenue for another 1/10 mile and then turn right onto Shore Road. On Shore Road, when you come to the fork with Narragansett Shores, bear left and look for a sign for Sabin Point Park on the left. Keep going on Shore Road and you will come to the park in another 0.2 miles. The boat ramp is at the north end of the park. Sabin Point Park is a 7-acre city park with sweeping views of the bay. There are picnic tables, benches, a playground, and a fishing pier. The area is very popular for fishing, especially when Stripped Bass and Bluefish are running.
