Conimicut Point Park

This is a site for launching hand-carried boats such as canoes or kayaks.

Description & Overview:

On both sides of the point there is a nice sandy beach to launch from. Pick the side of the point that is sheltered from the wind. You can go in many directions from this site. Occipessatuxet Cove is northwest of here and has a great tidal creek at its western end. Due west from the south side of Conimicut Point is the exit of Buckeye Brook, which at high tide can be followed all the way to Route 117. You are launching onto the open waters of Narragansett Bay so wind, waves and boat traffic should be expected. On most days the southwest wind fills in strongly in this area in the morning and blows throughout the afternoon, producing significant waves, so be prepared for this when planning your trip. Driving Landmarks: Heading east on Route 117 (West Shore Road), after you pass the intersection with Oakland Beach Avenue go 1.9 miles to Economy Drive and turn right and then almost immediately turn left onto Symonds Road. Go 0.2 miles on Symonds and take a right onto Point Street. The entrance to Conimicut Point Park is 0.6 miles ahead on Point Street. Once in the park pick where to park based on which side of the point you want to launch from.
