This is a site for launching boats from trailers. Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but please do your best to keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.

Description & Overview:

Shippee Sawmill Pond is a small but pretty and serene 8-acre pond in the woods of North Foster. There are a few houses visible from the pond but most of the shoreline is wooded. The pond is part of the RI DEM Ponagansett River Corridor. You cannot paddle far on the pond but it is a fine place to relax and enjoy the scenery, and to fish if you are so inclined. There is a gravel boat ramp but only non-motorized boats and boats powered with an electric motor are allowed on the pond.

In addition to the boat ramp there is a separate parking lot on the other side of the outlet stream and the shoreline near this parking area is suitable for launching hand-carried boats.

This area is stocked with trout several times during the spring.

This site provides access to the following water bodies in the Pawtuxet River watershed: Shippee Sawmill Pond.

This turn is just after the "Weight Limit 3 Tons" sign and before the bridge over the stream. The boat ramp is 1/10 mile ahead, at the end of this road (bear right at the fork in the road). To reach the alternate put-in (for hand-carried boats only) stay on Willoughby Young Road, crossing over the stream, and look for the sign and parking lot for "Shippee Mill Pond Fishing Area" 1/10 mile ahead on the left.
