This is a site for launching boats from trailers. Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but please do your best to keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.

Description & Overview:

Indian Lake is a large, 260 acre lake. There is a 10hp limit on all boats operating on the lake. Some of the shoreline is built up but much of the shoreline is natural.

In the spring and early summer of 2018 this boat ramp was rebuilt and should now be in great condition.

This site provides access to the following water bodies in the Saugatucket River watershed: Indian Lake.

Location:

Town: South Kingstown

Nearest Town Center: Wakefield

Driving Landmarks: From Route 1 South, 1.4 miles south of the junction with Route 138, turn right onto Arrow Head Trail. Go 0.2 miles and turn left onto Indian Trail. Go 0.5 miles to where Indian Trail ends in a turn-around and gravel parking area at the boat ramp, just after the junction with Woodland Trail.

From Route 1 North, go past Arrow Head Trail and use the turn around near Ridge Road to get onto Route 1 South. Then follow the directions above for Route 1 South.

The Cowsill's song, "Indian Lake".

Submitted by: Don; November 9, 2023; 1:09 pm

I noticed that a comment was posted here stating that the song, Indian Lake, by the Cowsill's, referred to this lake in RI. This is NOT the case. Prolific songwriter Tony Romeo was asked by the Cowsill's to write a song about summer family fun, and he based the song on Indian Lake, near his home in upstate ny. The Cowsill's turned it into a very successful hit song. It is only a coincidence that the Cowsill's and the Indian Lake on this site are both from RI. This is all easily verifiable via many online resources.

Indian Lake was the subject of the hit song "Indian Lake" by the Cowsills in the 1960's. The Cowsills were from RI. Barry Cowsill died during Hurricane Katrina.

Is the boat ramp open yet?

Before I drive an hour for no reason. Is the Indian lake boat ramp finished? Or is there any other spot I can drop my kayak in? [Moderator's comment: Yes, the newly rebuilt ramp is open and available for use.]
