Smith Street Public Right of Way

This is a site for launching hand-carried boats such as canoes or kayaks.
Description & Overview:
NOTE: As of July 2024, there is reportedly a wooden barrier across this access point so this access point may no longer be available.
At the end of Smith Street there is access to the shoreline suitable for launching hand carried boats. However, the only parking is a few spaces along the south side of Smith Street. Please be sensitive to the local residents when parking your car and launching your boat so that these parking spaces remain available.
This put-in provides access to the Kickimuit River, which is broad and scenic and has various side channels to explore, especially at the north end. Heading south from this put in takes you to the narrows at the mouth of the river. Beyond the narrows are the wide open waters of Mount Hope Bay. On most days the southwest wind develops in the morning and blows through the afternoon, producing significant waves especially on the bay, so be prepared for this when planning your trip.
This site provides access to the following water bodies: Kickemuit River.
Location:

Driving Landmarks: From Route 136 take Kickemuit Avenue east. Kickemuit Avenue winds around a little, just keep following it until you get to Smith Street, half a mile from Route 136.
