This is a site for launching hand-carried boats such as canoes or kayaks.
Description & Overview:
This beach offers a suitable location for launching hand carried boats, especially sea kayaks, into Narragansett Bay, but since it's an exposed beach you can expect wind and waves even on a typical summer day. Once on the water you can head north around the point and into Greenwich Bay or south into the mouth of the Potowomut River, also know locally as "Greene's River," which is the mouth of the Hunt River. You can paddle over 2 miles up the winding Potowomut before you come to the Forge "Falls" dam at Forge Road.
This site provides access to the following water bodies: Narragansett Bay, Greenwich Bay.
Location:
Town: Warwick
Driving Landmarks: From Route 1 just south of downtown East Greenwich, take a left (if coming from the center of East Greenwich) at the stoplight, following signs to Goddard Memorial State Park (Forge Road to Ives Road). Pass all entrances to Goddard Park and follow Ives Road to the end.
Access & Waters:
Water 'Features' At Site: ocean/bay, Sandy Point projects out into Narragansett Bay at the south edge of Greenwich Bay, so it is very exposed to wind and waves coming from the south, east and north. So even on a typical summer days you can expect wind and waves here.
Note: Because one boat launch can access, say, both a lake and a river or both the upstream and downstream portions of a river, not all paddling trips at a given site will necessarily encounter all of the features listed.
