Woonasquatucket Reservoir (west side)

This is a site for launching boats from trailers. Boat ramps can normally be used to launch canoes and kayaks but please do your best to keep the boat ramp clear for boat trailers.

Description & Overview:

Woonasquatucket Reservoir is a 300 acre Reservoir on the Woonasquatucket River. It is sometimes called Stillwater Reservoir and also Stump Pond from the days, now long past, when there were standing dead trees in the water from when the land was flooded to make the reservoir. There are some houses near the shore, but overall the shoreline is surprisingly natural given its suburban setting. It is a large body of water so waves large enough to cause problems for canoes and kayaks can form on a windy day. At the north end of the Reservoir is Mowry Conservation Area, a beautiful natural area that includes walking trails and a very scenic section of the Woonasquatucket.

There is a 10hp limit on motors on Woonasquatucket Reservoir.

Driving Landmarks: This site is on Log Road, which turns off to the north from Pleasant View Avenue (Route 5 and 116) at the sharp corner just west of the causeway across the reservoir. Once on Log Road stay right at the fork to get to the access site, which is on your right in 0.1 mile.

Note: Because one boat launch can access, say, both a lake and a river or both the upstream and downstream portions of a river, not all paddling trips at a given site will necessarily encounter all of the features listed.

Shoreline: There is a boat ramp here suitable for launching trailered boats. Hand carried boats should leave the ramp clear for trailered boats and launch from the extensive, low, sandy and grassy shoreline nearby, which provides many excellent locations for launching hand-carried boats.
